Sticky Notes

I write countless cares

haphazardly on the backs of sticky notes

I watch them sag under the same weight

I bear on my shoulders

They fall like leaves and leaflets to the floor

unable to lift themselves up again

Someday, when I’m ready

I’ll gather them all in a crumpled pile

and watch as they writhe and convulse

beneath the flame

suddenly, they are gone

it’s tragic that I can’t do the same

oh, to be free of countless cares

to cast them to an abyss, and to leave them there…
