Cut Roses

In a way, this is a derivative of Promise Me You’ll Go, but that was not the initial intent.

My dear friend

I’d be lying if I said I know

You know it to be true, so

Let’s move on from here

Let’s move on from here

Hearts break

And we’re just scared

There’s more at stake

Never know if we’re unprepared

I’ve lived twice as long

Than friends who lived more alive

They’re the ones in song

Up here, I just survive

My dear friend

You’re holding on to what you know

You know it to be true, so

I’m so proud of you

And you should be, too

Move, dear friend

Go whichever way you choose

True North is yours to own

Promise me you’ll go

Promise me you’ll go

I’ve lived with

Vicariously numb fingertips

I have sat

In surrogate silence

This life is mine to save

Leaving cut roses on your grave
