The Edge of Golden

I fitfully throw myself out of bed

to catch a glimpse of the Edge of Golden

halfway up the mountainside

it so gracefully appears

Darkness falls past the horizon like lead

pieces of pages remain unfolded

undisclosed hearts won’t confide

but new hopes become more clear

Celestial shadows still cover my head

extinguished stars cause eyes to embolden

forgiving sins that won’t hide

the sunrise burns and endears

I climb, straight-shouldered and a heavy head

I am someone else’s Edge of Golden

carrying demons inside

yet here be new eyes, my dear
