A Simple Fool

I walk on the ridgeline

That stands between me and the sunrise

Stumbling first to one side

And then to the other, sometimes

So some days I can’t help but feel the kiss

Of the warm morning rays and fading mist

And some days the shadows come before me

“Just give up now, go back to sleep”

There’s a balance to find

On the edge of my mind

Far better to feel the warmth and know the cool

Better to smile through tears than be a simple fool
