Enlivened Embers

Be here; stoke the fire

On a late autumn’s evening

Fingers numb, sparks popping higher

So bright, it’s deceiving

Stay awhile

Just

Just long enough

For the color to return to your face

Until you can feel the rough

Of the damp stump-seat

And you can taste

The enlivened

Embers
