I haven’t been writing much poetry lately, yet I see the 10-15 of you that check in to my website daily.
First of all, I appreciate you guys. Knowing you’re looking for seeking out my poetry means a lot to me.
Secondly, I usually write first thing in the morning when I get to work after I start pulling the morning reports, and sometimes if I’m having a hard time thinking of something to write, I’ll even wait until after my morning meetings. Lately, I have not been “feeling it” when I get to work. I don’t believe in writer’s block – you can usually write through the “not feeling it” moments and once you start, the flow happens and you find the groove you were hoping to get into. But what I intend to say is I only do this for fun, and a bit of self-therapy. My mind races every day, and writing a poem first thing in the morning helps me suss out some of those thoughts to either understand why I’m feeling a certain way, or to try and brighten other peoples’ days because if I can’t feel happy, I should at least try to make someone else feel happy. However, I don’t want this to be an assignment that I must finish every day because that puts undue pressure on the process and can cause me to produce very poopy poetry.
All that said, I am writing my book (no, but for real this time. Not like that time I wrote Okay, Fine. I’m Writing a Book. Send Help. in January 2019 and it took me until May 2019 to actually start writing, and when I did, I started writing a different book than the one mentioned in the post.) I’m participating in NaNoWriMo, and though I have missed a few days, it is my goal to have a first draft written before January 2021, so even if I don’t finish in November, I will finish before the end of the year.
I’m excited to share that with you all. I will get back to writing poetry every day, I promise. I’m just running low on bandwidth these days.
Would you be interested in reading snippets/scenes from the book as I finalize them, or should I stick to poetry?
Let me know in the comments!
Post whatever you’ve written!
