The Gatekeeper’s Toll

Get out and let the sun warm your face
Let her kiss your cheeks tenderly
And caress your anxious soul
Walk around until you find a new space
Allow yourself to fill it secretly
Hidden by bush and by knoll
Then, as it strikes, let whimsy take chase
Hunting this life so expertly
As a lion might a foal
Then, at the end, you might embrace
The peaceful darkness so lovingly
Eagerly and easily paying the gatekeeper’s toll
