My Creature

Please do not take from me
This moment that is ever-long
Outside of noise and static and speech
This moment that is, to me, a creature
Creature of the wee morning light
Creature of the starless, misty night
Creature ever closer behind
Creature of a peaceful mind
I do not pay my creature attention
The way I ought, how he deserves
It’s not my proclivity nor my convention
To keep the quiet in a way that preserves
But now my creature lays sweetly beneath me
My feet resting on his rise-and-fall chest
I must cherish before the world starts beseeching
And takes my mind to where there is no rest

No creature,
No peace,
No mist,
No moment
