I took a moment to breathe
And saw many, many things
The pictures, usually painted over behind my eyes
Were just as they should be, devoid of mask or disguise
I took a moment to breathe
And heard many, many things
The symphonies composed in this great, wide earth
Were no longer talked over, no longer diminished in worth
I took a moment to breathe
And felt many, many things
And yet not so many as you’d think
Everything’s simpler when not muddled by overload and the drink
I took a moment to live
And lived many, many things
They say life’s simpler in our dreams
But the simplest is, simply, to be
