Candlelight War

How do you explain candlelight
Without the flames of war
Light up the room, light up the night
Each fueled by an innocent core

And when the world goes dim
In peaceful vim
Why do we go looking for more
And when the missiles shred
Through the innocent, now dead
We light to remember them evermore

We light when the darkness draws in near
We light when we don’t know what we fear
We light as we pray for our career
But I, myself, wish it would go dark
So I could sleep in peace once more
