A Placid Shore

Along the coast, on a placid shore
I pace and I pace and I pace once more
The glimmering sea sparkles and winks
And I think back to what was before

It seemed back then a tumultuous roar
The swells rocked the ship back and forth
I sat belowdeck without care or kink
Trusting that we’d make it to shore

Along the horizon in front of me
I see flashes of destruction and greed
While, inland, the mountains burn and seethe
Yet on my placid shore I forget to breathe
