Still Have Love

Once upon a time

I could turn an inkling into a sign

An underscore from a fine line

Intriguing into something sublime

and it was always by design

but I wouldn’t say that it’s all mine

No, I couldn’t give your eye that shine

not with the way I can be so blind

I can’t even make a perfect rhyme

only you could make my heart consign

And it was once upon a time

That I could make you mine

Starting small is perfectly fine

But there’s something that comes to mind

You don’t build from a crumb, or a rind

Love is left over when you throw the rest aside

Love is what life is made of

and life tends to crumble sometimes…
