Dreaded Sleep

“You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.” -Dr. Seuss

Watching my Love with heart-shaped eyes

Wake next to me with a relieved sigh

Because last night, I dreaded sleep

And only hoped for “the Lord, my soul to keep”

But now we’re here, safe with the sunrise

Though prone to see the wither as the time flies

But forty, fifty, sixty, seventy years that come to an end

Is far, far better than eternity asleep and a Love pretend
