Effervescent Marrow Crackle

I feel the chill reach my bones
The effervescent marrow crackle
In childhood, it’s something I had known
Now, in my mind, it’s no more than mackle

I chase the high of numb fingertips
But devil-may-care gnaws my limb
Now, I’ve got nothing more than blue, quivering lips
And a heart of distant, wistful vim
