Hold My Light

If I just hold a light
Nothing brilliant
Nothing engulfing
Nothing overly-bright
Will I be seen across the night?
Will I be seen from some sort of height?
I’ve struck many matches
But I can’t tell
If anything else happened to ignite
Now my matchbox is lighter
Following each flare
There’s a darkness that steals all other sights
Now I’m growing faint
With a slight glow despite
The voices on the breeze
That come from inside
So I cup my little flame
Close my eyes tight
And hold my light
